Call for witnesses - Robbery/Assault - Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a youth was assaulted and robbed in Alice Springs yesterday afternoon.

Sometime between 3 and 3:50pm a female youth was walking along Tietkins Avenue when it is alleged she was approached by a group of youths who pushed her the ground and assaulted her.

The offenders stole a number of items from the victim’s backpack before she was about to fight back and flee to a nearby residence.

It is further alleged the group followed the victim, before leaving the scene.

Detective Sergeant Marcus Becker appealed to anyone who lived in the area with CCTV footage and has CCTV footage, to contact police.

“This is an absolutely terrifying ordeal for anyone let along a young person,” said Det Sgt Becker

“On receiving the report police immediately canvassed the scene, however we’re confident someone saw or heard something as the assault occurred during a peak hour of the day.

“The victim said she saw a cyclist in the area at the time of the assault. We’d appreciate if this person would contact us in regards to what they may have witnessed.”

Police are seeking information from any witnesses, local residents who may have CCTV footage from the area or dashcam from motorists who were in the area of Tietkins Avenue between 3 and 4pm yesterday, to contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
