Charges - Drug driver - Malak

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a 33-year-old woman following a motor vehicle crash in Malak yesterday.

At around 9:20am, police were called to a two-vehicle crash after the woman, who allegedly reared-end another vehicle, would not provide her details to the driver of the vehicle she hit.

Upon arrival, the woman appeared to be affected by alcohol or drugs. A roadside breath test was conducted, however provided a negative result and subsequently she was subjected to a drug test. She returned a positive result to amphetamines and methamphetamines.

The woman was arrested and taken to Palmerston Watch House. Police later identified that the woman was unlicensed and had only held a learner licence, which expired in 2014.

She was charged with:

  • drive without due care
  • drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
  • driver with prohibited drug in blood

She will appear before Darwin Local Court on 17 March 2021.
