Northern Territory Police have charged two people with drug offences following a traffic apprehension in Howard Springs yesterday evening.

Around 5pm, police pulled over a Toyota Hilux travelling south on the Stuart Highway.

Traffic members speaking to the vehicle’s occupants noticed a very strong smell of cannabis coming from the vehicle and located four large garbage bags on the back seat that were full of freshly harvested cannabis.

Drugs and Organised Crime members subsequently executed warrants at two addresses, one in Malak and the other in Howard Springs, and located a hydroponic set up, harvested plants, gel blasters, and a quantity of cash.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Supply less than commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • Possess commercial quantity cannabis

A 31-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Cultivate cannabis
  • Possess commercial quantity cannabis
  • Possess prohibited weapon

They were issued Notices to Appear in Darwin Local Court on 5 July 2021.
