Charges – Fraud – Northern Territory

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to multiple counts of fraud committed throughout the Northern Territory earlier this month.

Between the 11 and 27 September 2021, a 36-year-old man allegedly unlawfully came into possession of personal identification documents that he used to commit identity fraud.

Strike Force Trident detectives arrested the man on the 27 September and he has since been charged with:

  • 39 x Obtain a benefit by deception
  • 2 x Dealing with identification information
  • 1 x Stealing
  • 2 x Furnish false details to police
  • 2 x Possess stolen property

He was also issued an infringement notice for:

  • Contravention of emergency declaration or direction

In relation to providing a false name and identification when entering the Northern Territory.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “This individual has allegedly defrauded over $100’000 from his victim and his actions have caused unjust distress. Strike Force Trident will continue to focus on all elements of property crime in the Northern Territory."
