Northern Territory Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s Directions.

The man arrived at Darwin airport on a flight from Cairns on 26 July. It is alleged he failed to provide sufficient details to satisfy entry into the Northern Territory and was directed by health authorities to enter supervised quarantine at Howard Springs.

While at the quarantine facility it is alleged the man committed further breaches of the Chief Health Officer’s Directions. The man was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody. He has been charged with breach of CHO Directions and has been bailed to appear on 24 August 2021.

Incident Controller A/Commander Hege Burns said, “It is important that everyone who enters the Territory complete and submit their NT Border Entry Form, including detailing all locations they have resided at and visited for the past 14 days prior to entry, regardless of whether you have come from a hotspot location or not.

“We are working around the clock to stop COVID-19 spreading into the Territory. Non-compliance is not only disappointing, but it is not acceptable and we will not hesitate to act when it comes to ensuring the safety of all Territorians.”
