COVID-19 Infringements - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have issued infringements to six people who provided false information on their Border Entry Form on arrival in Darwin earlier this week.

Information received by police is that two men aged 29 and 30 and four women aged between 29 and 31-years-old had left Victoria on 15 July, which was a declared hot spot at the time, and travelled into South Australia before arriving in Darwin on 20 July.

It will be alleged all six people, who were travelling together, provided false information to border entry personnel on arrival in Darwin.

Incident Controller Acting Commander Hege Burns said, “It’s absolutely unacceptable that these people were willing to put the rest of our community at risk by their selfish actions”.

“They will now spend the majority of their time in the Territory, in mandatory quarantine.”

The group were located and removed from accommodation in Darwin by Police on Wednesday and taken to the Howard Springs Quarantine Facility. Each were issued with a $5056 infringement notice.

The penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environment Health Act 2011 is $5056 for an individual and $25,280 for a business.
