Crime series – Darwin

Police

Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad and Strike Force Trident are investigating a spate of property crimes and assaults across the Darwin suburbs overnight.

Around 11:30pm, a blue Ford Ranger was stolen from a residence in Karama.  Just after midnight four people allegedly entered a property in Larrakeyah, assaulted an occupant and stole property.

Soon after that in Fannie Bay, an aggravated unlawful entry at a residence in Fannie Bay involved an occupant being assaulted, and a white MG hatch was stolen.

A blue Ford Ranger was sighted leaving both scenes.

The alleged offenders then made their way to Lyons, stealing property and car keys from a residence there around 12:30am.

The stolen MG was possibly involved in further incidents between 12:45am and 1:15am, one in Jingili where a taxi driver was assaulted; another taxi accosted in in Karama by the car blocking its way, and then at a service station in Casuarina another taxi driver was assaulted and the vehicle damaged.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Wayne Newell said, “The stolen Ford was recovered in Malak around 1am, and the stolen MG was recovered near 15-mile camp just after 2am.

“One offender is in custody assisting police with their enquiries, however there were more offenders involved.”

Further arrests are expected and charges will be laid pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We encourage any witnesses or people with information relating to these incidents to contact police on 131 444.”
