Rescue – Litchfield National Park

Police

Northern Territory Police and NT Parks and Wildlife rangers have rescued three hikers who became lost yesterday afternoon in Litchfield National Park.

The three men, two aged 21 and one 23, began their trek on the Table Top Track at 7:40am. At approximately 2pm, after running out of water, the group became disoriented and made the decision to call triple zero for assistance.

Batchelor Police coordinated a response with park rangers, dispatching a helicopter from Batchelor Airstrip. All three hikers were quickly located and taken to Batchelor Clinic for routine health checks, where no further medical treatment was required.

Acting Commander Brendan Muldoon said, “We are pleased that there has been a successful result and thank the Rangers and pilot for their expert assistance in safely returning all three hikers. It was a sensible decision by the hikers to call triple zero for assistance at the earliest opportunity as it allowed us to locate the trio quickly and safely. I would remind anyone hiking to be well prepared and equipped, especially ensuring you have enough water with you. It is also highly recommended you take a Personal Locator Beacon with you whenever travelling remotely.”
