UPDATE #2: Overdue party – West Daly Region

Police

The search for a 28-year-old man missing in waters off Wadeye since Saturday has ceased.

Superintendent Kirk Pennuto said, “Unfortunately, after an intensive three-and-a half-day air, land and sea search that involved Police, Parks and Wildlife, NTES volunteers, local rangers and community, the missing man has not been located alive.

“The search effort has been exhaustive and has identified evidence, including DNA evidence that the missing man is no longer alive and there are a number of possibilities that will be examined for the Coroner in regards to cause of death.”

The area is known for its challenging seas and has a number of large resident crocodiles. Yesterday, authorities removed a large crocodile from the search area.

“The man’s family is being offered welfare and pastoral support. Our thoughts are with them.”
