A man who is alleged to have driven a vehicle at a group of people at a remote community in Central Australia, has been arrested and charged by Northern Territory Police.
On Tuesday 4 January, Police responded to a large disturbance between two groups in the remote community of Nyirripi.
During the disturbance it is alleged a 22 year old man drove a vehicle into a group of people, resulting in two men aged 18 and 24, sustaining significant injuries. The pair were airlifted to the Alice Springs Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries.
On Thursday 6 January, Northern Territory Police from Yuendumu and the Alice Springs CIB located and arrested the 22-year-old man, who was transported to the Alice Springs Watch House and charged with;
• Recklessly endangering serious harm
• Driving a motor vehicle causing serious harm
• Hit and run cause serious harm
• Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
• Drive an unregistered/uninsured motor vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear before court in Alice Springs today.
A 28-year-old woman who was struck to the head with an edged weapon during the disturbance was treated at the local clinic for non-life threatening injuries. Police investigations to identify the offender responsible for this, continue.
