Charges – Aggravated assault – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to a domestic violence incident in Alice Springs yesterday.

At 7:30am, it is alleged a 41-year-old man drove a Toyota Hilux at his female partner along a footpath on Gap Road. The woman has moved out the way and the man has allegedly exited the vehicle and assaulted her with a blunt weapon.

He has then placed her into the back of the vehicle and fled the scene.

At 9:30am, investigators from Strike Force Viper located the vehicle on the Tanami Highway where the man was arrested and the woman was treated for non-life-threating injuries.

He has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Drive uninsured motor vehicle
  • Drive unregistered motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle with defect notice
  • Driver without due care
  • Drive medium range blood alcohol content

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chay McArthur said “This was a traumatic experience for the victim and it is completely unacceptable for this violent behaviour to be occurring within our community.

“If you or anyone you know is experiencing domestic or family violence please reach out on 131 444 or in an emergency call 000.”
