Northern Territory Police have charged three youths in relation to a number of violent incidents around Darwin earlier this week.

At 4:00pm on Tuesday, police received reports that a male youth was armed with an edged weapon and was attempting to steal vehicles around a shopping centre in Casuarina. The youth had also allegedly stolen a number of small items and had started numerous altercations with staff and shoppers.

While being placed under arrest, the 14-year-old allegedly assaulted two officers, one was treated for minor injuries.

Strike Force Trident detectives have since charged him with:

• 1 x Possess prohibited weapon
• 4 x Going armed in public
• 3 x Possess controlled weapon
• 1 x Damage to property
• 1 x Assault with intent to steal - cause harm
• 1 x Robbery - aggravated
• 1 x Aggravated assault
• 3 x Attempt to commit an offence
• 1 x Trespass on premises
• 2 x Fight in a public place
• 1 x Assault police
• 1 x Assault police and cause harm
• 1 x Resist police in execution of duty
• 1 x Serious breach of bail

He was additionally charged by Serious Crime detectives for offences committed in 2021:

• 10 x Assault a worker
• 5 x Offensive behaviour
• 4 x Aggravated assault
• 1 x Attempt arson
• 1 x Threats to injure

He was remanded to appear in court today.

A 13-year-old who was allegedly involved in part of the offending on Tuesday was also arrested by Strike Force Trident detectives, and has been charged with:

• Attempt to commit an offence
• Receive stolen property
• Robbery - aggravated
• Assault a worker
• Possess controlled weapon
• Going armed in public
• Serious breach of bail

He was remanded to appear in court today.

Another 13-year-old who was allegedly in the company of the offenders was also arrested and has been charged with:

• Serious breach of bail

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said, “Northern Territory Police have a zero tolerance approach to this sort of violent behaviour.

“Members of the public should be able to go about their business in peace, and police shouldn’t have to deal with being assaulted while carrying out their duty.
