Vehicle fire - Malak

Fire and Rescue

Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service responded to a reported vehicle fire in an underground carpark at Malak early on Sunday morning.

Soon after 5am, Marrara and Darwin fire station crews were dispatched to a property on Malak Crescent after multiple calls to triple zero (000) reported a vehicle on fire in an underground carpark and explosions occurring.

Firefighters arrived at the scene which had smoke showing from the building, and made entry to the underground carpark. Crews attacked the fire directly to prevent it from spreading to neighbouring vehicles and structures. As a result of the smoke spreading from the underground carpark, automated fire alarms activated in above ground office areas, with some smoke damage reported.

The fire was brought under control just before 6am.

An investigation into the circumstances and cause of the fire is ongoing.

If you were in the area at the time or have any information about the fire, contact police on 131 444 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
