Call for information - Sexual assault - Winnellie

Northern Territory Police are calling for information in relation an incident that occurred in Winnellie last night.

Shortly after 6:30pm, police received a report of an alleged sexual assault of a woman, which took place at a business premises near the intersection of Billeroy Road and the Stuart Highway.

Police and St John Ambulance attended and a crime scene was declared. The woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said: “A search of the area was conducted however, the suspect was not located.

"Police have reviewed CCTV footage and following up on enquiries and the matter is under investigation by detectives from the Sex Crimes Division.”  

The suspect is described as male, approximately 18 to 25 years of age, with a dark complexion, slim build to athletic build and was wearing a purple t-shirt and black/dark grey shorts.

Police would like to speak with any witnesses who observed a person matching the above description in the area or anyone who may have dash-cam footage who was travelling through the area around the time of the offending.
