Charges – Deprivation of liberty – Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a 40-year-old man with deprivation of liberty in Alice Springs.

Yesterday afternoon, police received reports that a 65-year-old man was allegedly abducted by the offender in a vehicle. Whilst the vehicle was driven around the CBD, the victim was allegedly assaulted multiple times.

The victim was able to flee from the offender and receive assistance from nearby members of the public. The victim was conveyed to the Alice Springs Hospital for a medical assessment.

A short time later, the offender allegedly entered a business on Larapinta Drive where he stole numerous small items.

Alice Springs general duties officers arrested the offender nearby where he was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital and remains under guard.

He has since been charged with robbery, abduction and deprivation of liberty and is expected to appear in Alice Springs Local Court later today.
