Operation Grimmel – Alice Springs

Police

Operation Grimmel has commenced in Alice Springs with 19 officers deployed so far to prevent crime and reduce anti-social behaviour through highly proactive law enforcement, targeting of high-risk offenders and high visibility police patrols particularly in the Alice Springs CBD and surrounding all licensed premises.

Members attached to the operation have made 10 arrests, brought 15 people into protective custody and issued 4 electronic infringement notices across Alice Springs.

Of note, around 12:30am yesterday, police received reports of a burglary at a residence on Gap Road, The Gap. Unknown offenders have unlawfully entered the premises, stealing small items and car keys, before fleeing the scene in a stolen white Suzuki Beleno.

The vehicle was observed driving erratically around the Alice Springs CBD a short time later.

The Drone Unit, Strike Force Viper, general duties and members from Operation Grimmel deployed to apprehend the vehicle, with tyre deflation devices successfully used to bring the vehicle to a stop in Eastside.

The offenders fled from the vehicle upon police arrival and remain outstanding.

“Our team will continue to work in partnership with the Alice Springs patrol network to ensure we meet the demands of the Alice Springs community.

“Members from Operation Grimmel will also be focussing heavily on ensuring our roads are safe. Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are registered, insured and road worthy. As always, always be aware of the fatal five, don’t drink or drug drive, don’t speed, don’t drive fatigued or distracted and wear your seatbelt.”
